Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have ruled out any political alliance that could undermine the party or its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governors said they remained committed to the APC and would not support candidates or political arrangements outside the party’s official structure.
The position was announced by the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, after the governors’ meeting in Abuja late Monday.
Uzodimma said the governors had not entered into any formal agreement with any individual or opposition political party ahead of the elections.
The declaration comes against the backdrop of the political activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and prominent Peoples Democratic Party figure, Nyesom Wike.
Wike, who is serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has been promoting a political movement known as the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
The initiative has generated political tension in some quarters, particularly as Wike seeks to expand his political influence beyond Rivers State.
The former Rivers State governor recently alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were among those behind political challenges confronting him.
Wike linked the disagreements to the growing influence of his Rainbow Coalition, which he said was creating opportunities for politicians seeking to challenge APC candidates in governorship and senatorial contests.
Responding to the political situation, the APC Governors Forum said its members would not participate in any arrangement that could create conflicting political interests within the ruling party.
Uzodimma, who presented the communique issued after the governors’ meeting, said the forum’s priority was to strengthen the APC and support candidates officially sponsored by the party.
The governor stated:
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.”
He stressed that APC governors would not support candidates contesting against the party’s officially nominated candidates.
According to Uzodimma, the governors’ campaign efforts will be directed towards APC candidates across the different levels of the 2027 elections.
He said the forum had no plan to support candidates outside the APC, regardless of their political relationship with individual governors or their support for President Tinubu.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party,” Uzodimma said.
He added that the governors’ campaign structure would operate in line with the President’s political expectations and the broader strategy of the APC.

The latest declaration reinforces the APC governors’ position that the party’s official candidates will receive their support during the 2027 electoral cycle.
Uzodimma said the governors would align their campaign activities with the party’s objectives and support President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” he said.
The declaration could further shape the political calculations surrounding emerging alliances and opposition movements as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
