2027 Election: Voting Against Tinubu Would Be Wrong, Says Delta Governor Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that President Bola Tinubu deserves the support of Deltans in the 2027 presidential election, citing the President’s family ties to the state through First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

During an interview on Arise Television, the governor described President Tinubu as an “in-law” to the people of Delta State and argued that such a relationship should naturally attract political support from the state’s electorate.

According to Oborevwori, President Tinubu remains the most closely connected presidential figure to Delta State among the expected contenders for the 2027 election. He maintained that many residents now view the President as part of their extended family and believe he should receive their backing at the polls.

The governor also highlighted the role of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in strengthening support for the administration across Delta State, particularly among the Itsekiri people. He expressed confidence that several ethnic groups within the state would continue to support the President due to the existing political and cultural connections.

Beyond political affiliations, Oborevwori defended the economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration, stating that recent reforms have improved revenue generation for state governments and increased their capacity to execute developmental projects.

He noted that the financial resources currently available to states have enabled governments to undertake more infrastructure projects and public services, which he believes reflects the impact of ongoing economic reforms.

The governor’s comments come months after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu was honoured by the Warri Kingdom with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse, meaning “Light of God.” The title was conferred by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, during a ceremony held in Warri earlier this year.

At the event, the First Lady described the recognition as a symbol of unity, service, and her enduring connection to the people of Delta State through her maternal Itsekiri heritage.

As political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum, Governor Oborevwori’s remarks are expected to contribute to ongoing discussions about regional alliances, party support, and the future political landscape in the South-South region.
