Residents and business owners in several parts of Delta State should prepare for temporary daily blackouts over the next several days. This comes as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) kicks off routine maintenance work at its Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
According to an official announcement shared via TCN’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the maintenance schedule began on Tuesday, June 4, and is expected to run through Sunday, June 16, 2026.
During this period, electricity will be temporarily cut off every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Why is the power being cut?
TCN explained that the scheduled outages are necessary to allow engineers to safely connect a bus coupler circuit breaker and refurbish five isolators located on the main busbar. These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure a more stable power supply in the long run.
Areas and Feeders Affected
Because of the technical work, multiple 33kV feeders connected to both the Effurun and Delta transmission substations will be temporarily shut down during the day.
If you live or operate a business in any of the following zones, your power supply will likely be affected during the designated hours:
Effurun
Warri
Sapele
Osubi
PTI
PMSL
Refinery I & II
Enerhen
Isoko/Kwale
Otovwodo/Patani
Ughelli/Shell
Agbarho/Eku
Aladja
Imoniyame
Beta Glass
When will power return?
The good news is that the blackouts will not be permanent. TCN assured the public that electricity will be restored daily at 5:00 p.m. once the engineers wrap up their work for the day. At that point, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be able to distribute power back to its customers.
The transmission company concluded its statement by expressing regret for any disruptions or inconveniences the maintenance window might cause to local residents and businesses.
