Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted a suspected foreign national in Borno State while recovering a large quantity of illicit substances allegedly being transported to areas linked to terrorist activities in the Lake Chad region.
The military described the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the supply networks that support terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Mohammed Goni, said the arrest was carried out during an intensive search operation along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis.
According to him, troops intercepted a suspicious vehicle heading towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect was identified as Mrs Rachael Samuel, 48, a Chadian national from Kelo in Chari-Baguirmi Province, Republic of Chad.
The military said preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered items were allegedly being moved towards locations within the Lake Chad Islands, an area known to have the presence of terrorist elements.
Items recovered from the suspect include:
- Seven compressed bundles of suspected Cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilogrammes
- Two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, commonly known as “Suck and Die”
- One carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages
- Mobile phone, ATM cards, personal effects and cash
The military estimated the value of the recovered items to run into millions of naira.

Goni said the suspect remains in military custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured for transfer to relevant law enforcement authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
Operation Hadin Kai said intelligence reports have consistently indicated that illicit drugs and intoxicants are sometimes used by terrorist groups to encourage fighters, reduce fear and support violent operations.
The command said the interception prevented the suspected consignment from reaching its intended destination and disrupted another part of the logistics chain supporting terrorist activities.
It praised the vigilance and professionalism of troops involved in the operation and assured Nigerians that military efforts against terrorists and their collaborators would continue across the North-East.
