Emir of Lafia at 70 became the focus of national attention as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid glowing tribute to His Royal Highness, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage Muhammad I, describing him as an exceptional jurist, respected traditional ruler and dedicated nation builder.

In a message marking the monarch’s 70th birthday, President Tinubu commended the Emir’s remarkable journey from the judiciary to the traditional institution, noting that his contributions have left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s legal system and the Lafia Emirate.

The President highlighted Justice Bage’s distinguished legal career, which saw him rise through the ranks from the High Court to the Court of Appeal before reaching the apex court as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

According to Tinubu, the Emir brought the same level of excellence and integrity that defined his judicial career into traditional leadership following his ascension to the throne as the 17th Emir of Lafia on March 26, 2019.

The President noted that the monarch’s reign has been marked by peace, stability, justice and progressive development across the Lafia Emirate.

He praised the Emir for introducing fresh ideas that have strengthened traditional governance while promoting national unity and social harmony within Nasarawa State and beyond.

Tinubu also acknowledged the Emir’s commitment to interfaith harmony, education and community development, describing these efforts as essential to building a more peaceful and prosperous society.

As Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, the President said Justice Bage has played a significant role in fostering cooperation among traditional institutions across the state and the North-Central region.

Beyond his traditional responsibilities, the Emir was also recognised for his religious leadership as the Grand Khalif of the Tijaniyyah Sufi Order in Nasarawa State, a role that further reflects his influence within both traditional and spiritual communities.

“As you celebrate your 70th birthday and seven years on the throne, I pray that Almighty Allah grants Your Royal Highness many more years of good health, wisdom and service to the people of Lafia and Nigeria,” the President stated.

The tribute comes as dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders and well-wishers across the country join in celebrating the life and achievements of one of Nigeria’s most respected royal fathers.
