FCT Satellite Towns received a major boost on Monday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared that the era of neglecting communities on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory is over under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President made the declaration during the commissioning of the Karu Water Supply Network, a major infrastructure project designed to provide safe and reliable water to residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and neighbouring communities within the FCT.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event in Kurudu, Abuja, President Tinubu said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that improve the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians.
According to the President, governance should not be limited to city centres while residents in satellite communities continue to struggle for basic amenities such as clean water, healthcare and transportation.
He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a promise to ensure that development reaches every part of the country, including underserved communities that have long been overlooked.
“We are here not just to commission a project, but to deliver a fundamental necessity of life. Today, we declare that the era of neglect for our satellite towns is officially over,” the President stated.
Tinubu recalled that during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project last year, he directed that water infrastructure expansion should extend beyond the city centre to rapidly growing suburban communities.
He explained that when the proposal for the Karu Water Supply Project was presented, the administration immediately approved funding because access to clean water is essential for public health, economic development and human dignity.
The project includes more than 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks that will deliver treated and potable water directly to thousands of homes and businesses across the benefiting communities.
The President praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the implementation of key infrastructure projects across Abuja, describing him as a results-oriented leader focused on delivery.
He noted that residents of Karu and surrounding areas had for decades relied on unsafe boreholes and private water vendors despite the rapid population growth within the communities.

According to him, the completion of the project demonstrates the administration’s determination to move beyond promises and provide tangible benefits to citizens.
President Tinubu also urged residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and illegal connections, stressing that the facilities belong to the people and must be preserved for future generations.
He further revealed that similar projects are being replicated in Bwari and other Area Councils as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions across the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking at the ceremony, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike thanked President Tinubu for supporting critical infrastructure projects in both the city centre and satellite communities.
He said the water project aligns with the administration’s vision of ensuring that all residents of the FCT enjoy access to essential services regardless of their location.
Officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) disclosed that the project connects more than 1,000 distribution lines and will significantly improve access to clean water for residents of Karu, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and neighbouring communities.
The commissioning marks another major infrastructure milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to improve public health, economic activities and the overall quality of life for thousands of residents across the FCT.
