NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to the examination body, candidates wrote examinations in 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
The 2026 BECE commenced on April 20 and ended successfully on April 30, 2026, with NECO describing the conduct of the examination as smooth and credible.
The Council stated that the release of the results followed the approval of the Award Committee after reviewing the conduct of the examination and the overall performance of candidates.
Speaking during the committee meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
She expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the examination and commended NECO for ensuring the timely release of the results.
The meeting was attended by principals of secondary schools from across Nigeria alongside members of the management of the National Examinations Council.
As part of its resolutions, the committee approved July 22 and July 23, 2026, as the official dates for the BECE re-sit examination.
NECO explained that the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.
According to the Council, the examination gives affected candidates another opportunity to remedy their deficiencies without repeating an entire academic session.
NECO noted that successful candidates in the re-sit examination would become eligible for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I), provided they meet other necessary requirements.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the decision, describing it as a practical approach that supports students while maintaining academic standards.
The Council reiterated that the re-sit arrangement reflects its commitment to fairness, quality assessment and continuous improvement of Nigeria’s basic education system.
NECO further assured candidates, parents and schools that it remains committed to conducting credible examinations that meet national educational standards.
The examination body also encouraged candidates to check their results through the approved NECO result-checking platform and begin preparations early for the scheduled re-sit examination where necessary.
The release of the 2026 BECE results marks another important milestone in Nigeria’s educational calendar as thousands of students prepare for the transition into senior secondary education.
