The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement ahead of the local government elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The command said the directive is part of security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process across the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Eno Ikoedem, all vehicular and human movement will be restricted from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day.
The police explained that the restriction is intended to support effective security operations and prevent activities that could disrupt the conduct of the polls.
However, exemptions have been granted to essential personnel, including officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, duly accredited media practitioners, security agencies, emergency responders, and other approved service providers working during the election.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful election.
He urged eligible voters to comply with electoral guidelines issued by EDSIEC and participate responsibly in the democratic process.
