Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed residents to promptly report suspicious movements and individuals to security agencies following intelligence on an alleged plan by terrorists to cause unrest in parts of the South-West.

Adeleke also announced plans to convene a State Security Council meeting to assess the reported threat and strengthen the state’s response to possible attacks.

The governor made this known on Sunday in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The governor’s reaction followed a report concerning a meeting between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the leadership of the Osun Muslim Community and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state.

At the meeting, leaders of the two religious groups were reportedly informed of intelligence indicating that terrorists were planning to mobilise to states across the South-West and cause mayhem.

The alleged plot was said to be aimed at creating fear and voter apathy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following the development, Adeleke urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately provide security agencies with information about suspicious activities in their communities.

The governor called on residents to pay particular attention to unusual movements and the possible influx of unfamiliar individuals, especially in communities located near state borders.

Adeleke commended the DSS for what he described as proactive measures to counter the reported threats.

He also directed other security agencies to review the situation and develop an action plan capable of strengthening the protection of lives and property across Osun State.

The governor said he would soon convene the State Security Council to assess the situation and determine the effectiveness of existing response plans.

Adeleke further urged residents to be cautious about people being hosted within their communities, while calling on traditional rulers to convene meetings of their respective traditional councils to discuss the security concerns.

He stressed the need for residents, traditional institutions and security agencies to work together through timely information sharing.

The governor said the state government remained committed to post-election peace-building and would strengthen security measures to prevent terrorists and bandits from disrupting public peace.

The governor’s warning comes amid heightened security concerns over alleged plans to target places of worship and create fear ahead of the 2027 elections.

Adeleke urged residents not to ignore unusual activities or movements, stressing that early reporting of credible intelligence could help security agencies prevent potential attacks.
