National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned party members against actions that could create further divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mark specifically cautioned against inflammatory statements, unnecessary litigation and internal sabotage, urging members to prioritise unity following the party’s recently concluded primary elections.
He spoke in Abuja during the inauguration of the ADC National Reconciliation and Peace Committee at the party’s national secretariat.
The ADC chairman charged the 11-member committee with resolving grievances arising from the party’s primary elections and helping to unite members ahead of the 2027 polls.
Mark said the reconciliation initiative was designed to strengthen the party, restore confidence among members and ensure that those who felt aggrieved after the primaries were not left behind.
He said the party must heal internal wounds and rebuild trust if it hopes to present a united front in the 2027 elections.
According to Mark, the committee’s task is to ensure that every member feels recognised and included in the party’s political structure.
Mark acknowledged that the primaries produced candidates who emerged victorious, but said the process also left some aspirants and supporters disappointed.
He said the resulting grievances must be addressed before the party enters the next phase of its preparations for the general election.
The ADC chairman urged members to understand that losing a primary should not translate into exclusion from the party.
“An election may determine who carries the flag, but it must never determine who belongs to the party,” Mark said.
The former Senate President also cautioned ADC members against conduct capable of weakening the party from within.
He urged members to avoid inflammatory public statements, unnecessary court actions and other activities that could deepen disagreements.
Mark’s warning comes as political parties across Nigeria begin consolidating their structures and resolving internal disputes ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
He stressed the importance of addressing disagreements through dialogue and reconciliation rather than allowing them to develop into prolonged internal conflicts.
The National Reconciliation and Peace Committee is expected to engage aggrieved members, identify areas of disagreement and work towards restoring unity within the ADC.
The committee’s intervention is particularly important following the party’s primary elections, which determined its candidates for various positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mark said the reconciliation process should strengthen the party rather than simply settle individual disputes.
He described the initiative as part of efforts to build a stronger political organisation in which members remain committed to the party regardless of the outcome of internal contests.

The inauguration of the reconciliation committee signals the ADC’s move towards consolidating its structures after its internal primary elections.
With the 2027 general election approaching, the party will need to maintain unity among aspirants, elected candidates and supporters to effectively compete against rival political parties.
Mark’s appeal is therefore aimed at preventing internal disagreements from undermining the party’s electoral preparations.

For the party, the central challenge will be turning the reconciliation process into lasting unity while ensuring that members who lost internal contests remain actively involved in the campaign ahead.
