Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production rose to 1,677,777 barrels per day in August 2026, as the country sustained compliance with its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) production quota for the fourth consecutive month.
The latest figure represents a 0.4 per cent increase from the 1,671,000 barrels per day recorded in July.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu.
According to the NUPRC, crude oil production excluding condensates stood at 1,500,190 barrels per day in August.
The regulator attributed the modest improvement in production largely to the resolution of operational challenges involving the Single Buoy Mooring at the Erha field.
The disruption had affected production performance in the preceding month.
The NUPRC said the restoration of normal evacuation and production operations at the asset contributed positively to the overall production volume recorded in August.
It added that production activities across most other producing assets remained relatively stable, with operators continuing efforts to improve efficiency, maintain asset integrity and reduce operational disruptions.
The regulator said Nigeria’s lowest daily crude oil and condensate production in August was 1.64 million barrels per day, while the highest stood at 1.71 million barrels per day.
A breakdown of production by terminals and streams showed that the Bonny Terminal recorded the highest average output during the month.
Bonny produced an average of 320.04 thousand barrels per day, followed by Forcados Terminal with 317.40 thousand barrels per day.
Qua Iboe Terminal recorded an average production of 171.72 thousand barrels per day, while Escravos Oil Terminal posted 131.71 thousand barrels per day.
Bonga ranked fifth among the leading producing terminals, with an average output of 92.50 thousand barrels per day.
Despite the increase recorded in August, the latest production figure remained below the 1,735,398 barrels per day recorded in June.
August production was 57,621 barrels per day lower than the June figure, reflecting the continued challenges facing the country’s oil production capacity.

However, the NUPRC said the August performance showed that industry operators were making progress in resolving operational constraints and restoring affected production capacity.
The commission said stakeholders remained focused on improving asset reliability, strengthening operational resilience and advancing intervention programmes to support sustained production growth.
The regulator further stressed the importance of timely intervention, effective asset management and collaboration among industry stakeholders in protecting Nigeria’s crude oil production capacity.
Nigeria’s oil production remains central to government efforts to increase revenue, improve foreign exchange earnings and strengthen the country’s ability to consistently meet its OPEC production quota.
