A midnight fire has destroyed 17 containerised lock-up shops in Lagos, prompting the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to launch an investigation into the cause of the incident.
The agency said it received a distress call at about 12:42 a.m. and immediately deployed firefighters from the Ikorodu and Ijede Fire Stations to the scene. Emergency responders arrived approximately 12 minutes later to find the fire engulfing 17 shops in a row of about 30 containerised lock-up shops.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the affected shops were situated on a parcel of land measuring approximately 648 square metres within a larger premises spanning about 1,944 square metres.
Firefighters from both stations worked together to contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and nearby buildings.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
She disclosed that a full investigation has commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and determine what triggered the fire.

The agency commended its personnel for their swift response, noting that their prompt intervention helped avert a much larger disaster that could have affected additional shops and surrounding properties.
Authorities have assured traders and members of the public that the investigation will determine the cause of the fire while efforts continue to strengthen emergency response measures across the state.
