During his interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Momodu described Lawal’s claims as unconvincing and lacking evidence. He questioned why the former SGF failed to provide documents or proof to support his allegations of electoral manipulation within the party.
Momodu also downplayed the impact of Lawal’s resignation from the ADC, insisting that his departure would not pose a significant challenge to the party or affect Atiku Abubakar’s political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Defending the former vice president, Momodu said Atiku has built a strong reputation through his political and business career. He noted that Atiku has never been investigated, prosecuted, or convicted of any wrongdoing, adding that he remains focused on his private business interests rather than relying on government resources.
The media entrepreneur further suggested that Lawal’s criticism may be driven by personal sentiments, stating that the former SGF appeared to harbour resentment toward Atiku.
On concerns surrounding Atiku’s age, Momodu argued that age should not be used as a measure of leadership capability. He cited examples of world leaders who continue to serve effectively in public office despite being in their later years, emphasizing that experience remains an important asset in governance.
The development follows Babachir Lawal’s resignation from the ADC on Monday. Lawal accused the party of manipulating its presidential primary process in favour of Atiku Abubakar and said he could not remain part of what he described as a political structure preparing for electoral manipulation ahead of the 2027 elections.
