The Nigerian military has successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, following weeks of captivity after she was abducted by armed bandits.
The rescue was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, as part of an intensified search-and-rescue operation under Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, security forces increased pressure on the criminal group through sustained offensive operations, leading to a breakthrough in the rescue mission.
Military authorities disclosed that troops made contact with the bandits in Tunga Village during the operation, resulting in the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.
The statement revealed that the abductors shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing the area due to the advancing military forces and growing operational pressure.
Following her rescue, she was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment. Defence authorities confirmed that she is responding positively to medical care.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria assured the public that all necessary support is being provided to ensure her full recovery and to assist her family during the difficult period.
Military officials also reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing those responsible for the abduction. Troops have continued operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising the perpetrators while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and criminal elements operating in affected communities.
The military stated that ongoing security operations are not limited to Katsina State but form part of broader efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
The successful rescue has been welcomed by security observers, who describe it as a significant development in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria.
