2027: NDC Plans 13-Man Structure In Every Polling Unit – Umeh
Share post

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is putting structures in place to ensure the party has representatives across polling units nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the National Assembly, disclosed this during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday.

Umeh said the party’s constitution provides for a 13-man executive structure at every polling unit, which he said would help the NDC maintain an organised presence during elections.

According to him, the party is currently working to replicate the structure across Nigeria.

Umeh said the NDC recognises the importance of having polling agents present to represent the party and monitor the electoral process.

He explained that the party’s growing membership and the candidates contesting under its platform would help extend its presence to grassroots communities.

The senator said candidates would play a major role in mobilising people and establishing the party’s presence at polling units.

He argued that parties without candidates in constituencies could struggle to maintain an effective presence at polling units on election day.

According to Umeh, the NDC has fielded candidates for all positions being contested in the 2027 general elections.

He said having candidates across constituencies would make it easier for the party to mobilise polling agents and strengthen its grassroots network.

Umeh said the party intends to ensure that no polling unit is left without an NDC representative on election day.

Beyond the party’s constitutional 13-man polling-unit executive structure, Umeh said he was personally establishing an additional network of 20 coordinators in each polling unit.

He said the arrangement was designed to prevent last-minute difficulties in recruiting and deploying polling agents.

According to him, the additional structure would give the campaign adequate manpower to select representatives for the election.

Umeh also linked the party’s preparations to the need to obtain polling-unit results immediately after voting.

He recalled his involvement in the Electoral Act amendment process and the discussions surrounding the electronic transmission of election results.

The senator said the developments had reinforced the need for political parties to have agents at polling units who can obtain relevant result documents.

He said the NDC wants its agents to secure copies of polling-unit results duly signed by presiding officers.

The Anambra Central senator said the party had started preparations early enough to ensure that its polling agents were properly positioned for the 2027 elections.

He maintained that the objective was to have adequate representation across the country rather than scramble for agents shortly before voting begins.

Umeh expressed confidence that the NDC would have agents across polling units to monitor the voting and collation process.
