The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has pledged to safeguard the integrity of the examination body, describing trust, transparency and fairness as the foundation of its continued credibility.
Aina made the commitment on Friday during a formal handover ceremony at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, where he officially assumed office as the Board’s new registrar.
He said preserving the integrity of JAMB would remain the guiding principle of his administration, stressing that technological innovation and operational efficiency are only meaningful when built on honesty and public confidence.
“Trust is not built by speeches; it is built by decisions, by the choices we make when no one is watching, by the standards we refuse to compromise and by the value that every Nigerian can place in the fairness of this institution,” Aina said.
He added that the Board would protect its integrity “with everything the law permits,” noting that integrity is the foundation upon which every achievement of the institution rests.
The new registrar signalled a firm stance against examination malpractice and admission fraud, warning that individuals involved in illegal activities would face stricter enforcement measures.
He said operators of examination malpractice syndicates, impersonators, certificate forgers, cybercriminals and corrupt officials would be targeted through improved technology, intelligence gathering and stronger institutional oversight.
According to Aina, safeguarding the credibility of examinations is essential to ensuring that qualified candidates receive fair opportunities to gain admission into tertiary institutions.
He disclosed that JAMB would strengthen collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders while adopting global best practices to combat emerging forms of examination fraud.
Aina stressed that every admission obtained through dishonest means deprives deserving candidates of legitimate opportunities.
Beyond tackling malpractice, the registrar outlined plans to improve JAMB’s service delivery by simplifying administrative procedures and enhancing communication with candidates, parents and educational institutions.
He said greater use of technology would help improve operational efficiency while reducing the stress often associated with examination registration, admissions and other Board services.
According to him, his vision is to build a transparent, accessible and citizen-focused institution where users receive timely information and professional support.
He noted that candidates and parents should experience confidence rather than frustration whenever they interact with the Board.
Aina described JAMB as one of Nigeria’s most important public institutions because of its role in providing access to higher education for millions of young Nigerians.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the appointment through dedicated service.
The new registrar also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, promising to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education in advancing reforms in the education sector.
He paid tribute to former JAMB registrars, including pioneer Registrar Michael Saidu Angulu, Mohammed Abubakar, Bello Salim, Dibu Ojerinde, and his immediate predecessor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose contributions he credited with strengthening the Board’s reputation.

Aina reserved special praise for Oloyede, commending his reforms and leadership in improving public confidence in JAMB over the years.
He described the smooth handover process as evidence of institutional continuity and professionalism, noting that effective leadership includes preparing successors for sustained progress.
Reflecting on his appointment, Aina recalled serving at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago, describing his return as registrar as a full-circle moment and pledging to build on the institution’s achievements while preparing it for future challenges.
