76 ISWAP Terrorists Surrender to troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, following sustained military offensives that continue to weaken insurgent strongholds across Nigeria’s North-East region.
The latest development represents another significant breakthrough in the Nigerian military’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign, with security authorities confirming that more than 76 ISWAP fighters abandoned their camps and voluntarily surrendered after weeks of relentless military pressure.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the surrender is a direct result of sustained ground and air offensives targeting terrorist hideouts and disrupting their operational capabilities.
The 76 ISWAP Terrorists Surrender milestone underscores the increasing success of Operation HADIN KAI in dismantling terrorist infrastructure, degrading command structures and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the theatre of operations.
Captain Goni disclosed that several key members of the terrorist network were among those who surrendered, alongside their family members, indicating growing pressure on the insurgent group.
He explained that continuous military operations have significantly weakened the terrorists’ combat capabilities while eroding confidence within their leadership and rank-and-file fighters.
According to the military spokesperson, the surrendered insurgents are currently being held at a secure location where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and other established procedures in accordance with operational guidelines.
The North-East theatre of operations covers six states comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe, where troops have sustained aggressive operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
Military authorities said the latest surrender further demonstrates the effectiveness of Nigeria’s comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy, which combines intelligence-led operations, precision strikes and coordinated joint operations involving land and air components.
Security analysts note that increasing numbers of terrorist defections often indicate sustained operational pressure and the gradual collapse of insurgent logistics, morale and leadership structures.
The military has intensified operations across the Lake Chad Basin and other terrorist enclaves in recent months, leading to the destruction of camps, recovery of weapons and the rescue of kidnapped civilians.
Captain Goni reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to completely defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
He stressed that military pressure on the remaining terrorist elements would continue without interruption until all insurgents are either neutralised or compelled to surrender.
According to him, troops remain highly motivated and committed to protecting communities while denying terrorists the ability to regroup or launch fresh attacks.
The latest operational success follows several recent military offensives that have forced insurgents to abandon strategic locations and surrender in increasing numbers.
Security experts believe sustained military pressure, improved intelligence gathering and enhanced collaboration among security agencies are contributing significantly to the gradual degradation of terrorist operations in the region.
The Federal Government has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces through improved equipment, intelligence capabilities and operational logistics aimed at ending insurgency across Nigeria.
