No fewer than six people have lost their lives after a thunderstorm struck farm workers in Dadiri-Tirigali village in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, police authorities have confirmed.

The tragic incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday during a heavy rainfall that swept through the community, according to the Adamawa State Police Command.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said the command received an emergency report from the Ganye Divisional Headquarters informing officers that several people had been struck by lightning while working on a farm.

According to Nguroje, police personnel were immediately deployed to the scene following the distress call.

He explained that officers arrived to find nine victims lying unconscious after they were struck by lightning during the storm.

Medical personnel later confirmed that six of the victims died, while three others regained consciousness after receiving emergency attention.

The police described the incident as a natural disaster and expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their loved ones.

The tragedy has left residents of the farming community in mourning as authorities continue to assess the impact of the incident.

Lightning-related fatalities are not uncommon during Nigeria’s rainy season, particularly in rural communities where many residents work outdoors during periods of unstable weather. Authorities have continued to advise farmers and other outdoor workers to seek shelter immediately whenever thunderstorms begin to reduce the risk of similar tragedies.
