The Delta State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Unity Adeda, with one person arrested in connection with the incident.
The investigation followed a complaint alleging that Adeda was beaten during an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.
The police said three aides to the commissioner were named in the complaint as allegedly being involved in the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, identified the three aides as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh.
Edafe said Lucky Adoh had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the other two persons named in the complaint.
The police have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death or established individual responsibility for the incident.
According to the police spokesman, investigators will examine the actions of everyone connected with the incident before determining whether any individual is culpable.
The investigation is expected to establish what happened at the commissioner’s office and the circumstances that preceded Adeda’s death.
The police said conclusions on responsibility would only be reached after the investigation has been completed.
The police command assured the deceased’s family that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without interference.

The Commissioner of Police commiserated with Adeda’s family over his death and assured them of the command’s commitment to establishing the facts surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as the police work to establish the circumstances of Adeda’s death and determine whether anyone should face criminal charges.
