The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced a ₦50 million support package for families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Akpabio made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary, describing the financial assistance as part of the Senate’s efforts to support families who lost loved ones during the tragic incident.
According to the Senate President, ₦10 million will be given to each of the five affected families.
The beneficiaries include the families of the three security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation, as well as the families of the two teachers who were killed in the incident.
Akpabio said the intervention reflects the Senate’s commitment to standing with victims of insecurity while supporting those who have suffered devastating losses.
Lawmakers also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at rescuing kidnapped victims still being held in different parts of the country.
During the plenary, Senator Abdul Ningi raised a point of order urging the Senate to adopt a broader compensation policy that covers all victims affected by attacks across the country.
He argued that compensation should not be restricted to selected categories of victims but should be extended to every citizen who suffered losses as a result of violent incidents.

According to Ningi, every affected Nigerian deserves equal treatment and consideration, stressing that the government’s support should be holistic, inclusive and free from discrimination.
The Senate is expected to continue discussions on measures to strengthen assistance for victims of insecurity while encouraging security agencies to sustain operations against kidnappers and other criminal groups.
